Itinerary: Venice, Kotor, Corfu, Civitavecchia (Rome), Monte Carlo, Genoa
Mediterranean Cruise & Luxury Lake Garda Stay
10 nights from £899pp
For centuries the Mediterranean was the hub of the known world, as Greeks, Romans, pontiffs and city states amassed vast fortunes and flaunted them in architecture and art. The cities built by Romans, Venetians, Genoese and their satellites are still among the finest in Europe, and the most rewarding way to arrive is as their creators did, by sea.
Your holiday begins with three nights on a half-board basis at a stylish, four-star Hotel in Desenzano, Lake Garda’s principal town. Desenzano boasts an elegant old quarter, several fine restaurants, an enticing beach and an exquisite little colonnaded Venetian harbour. Nearby Sirmione, with its cobbled streets and sulphur springs, was once home to the poet Catullus, whose ruined villa on its slender promontory is still fragrant with rosemary and bay trees.
On day four you’ll board the P&O Oceana, for a 7 night cruise visiting the wonders of the Mediterranean.
Explore the picturesque countryside in Tuscany and the archaeological wonder that is Pompeii from Naples. The heritage renaissance and baroque palaces in Dubrovnik and the romantic city of Venice. Or you could enjoy the picturesque landscape of Kotor. See the Eternal City of Rome and the racy playground of Monte Carlo & explore Genoa, an astounding old port full of ornate churches and beautiful palaces.
