Delhi - Tour and embark Deccan Odyssey
Enjoy a morning at leisure before a sightseeing tour of New Delhi, exploring sights including the imposing India Gate, Humayun’s Tomb and the Qutab Minar. This evening board the spectacular Deccan Odyssey, where you’ll receive a traditional Indian welcome and a refreshing drink as you settle into your delightful cabins.
Ranthambore National Park
Today you’ll enjoy a game drive at Ranthambore National Park, one of the best places to spot tigers in their natural habitat, as well as sloth bears, leopards and crocodiles. You’ll also visit a traditional Rajasthani village where local families will give you an insight into their way of life. Later you’ll enjoy afternoon tea at the Sawai Madhopur Lodge, the former hunting lodge of the Jaipur royal family.
Arriving in Agra, you will see that the Mughals were not just the greatest dynasty to rule India but also its greatest builders. Here, you’ll visit the incomparable Taj Mahal, one of the world’s most admired monuments. Your tour of Agra continues after lunch as you visit Itmad-ud-Daulah, a marble mausoleum sometimes referred to as the ‘Baby Taj’, and the Agra Fort, another outstanding example of Mughal architecture.
Today you’ll arrive in Jaipur, a colourful city overlooked by forts that crown the surrounding Aravali hills. You’ll stop at the Palace of Winds, also known as Hawa Mahal, famous for its intricate pink sandstone carving, before visiting the Amber Fort, a sprawling complex of courtyards and rooms adorned with paintings, precious stones and mirrors. Next you’ll explore the City Palace, with its exquisite palaces and gardens and the 17th century astronomical observatory, Jantar Mantar that still gives accurate readings today.
Udaipur, known as the City of Lakes, is easily one of the most romantic cities in India. You’ll visit the famous City Palace, with its scalloped arches, fretted balconies, and cupolas, followed by a boat cruise on the tranquil waters of Lake Pichola. Later you’ll enjoy a walking tour through the Old City of Udaipur with its colourful bazaars and shops selling spices, tea and bamboo baskets.
You’ll wake up in Vadodara, where you’ll visit the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the only complete pre-Mughal Islamic city in India. This concentration of largely unexcavated archaeological buildings is cradled in an impressive landscape. Marvel at the Jami Masjid (Great Mosque) built in 1513 representing a perfect blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture, which was a model for later mosque architecture in India.
This afternoon, you’ll stop at Aurangabad, from where a scenic drive takes you to the Ellora Caves, carved into the side of a basaltic hill. The finest specimen of cave-temple architecture in India, the site encompasses 34 rock-cut shrines representing Buddhist, Jain and Hindu art dating from the 4th to 5th century.
Mumbai - Disembark Deccan Odyssey and Hotel Stay
Your incredible journey through India comes to an end as you arrive back in Mumbai early this morning. After breakfast, you’ll disembark the Deccan Odyssey and enjoy a city tour that will take you to the Hanging Gardens from where you’ll enjoy excellent city views and Mani Bhavan, the former residence of Mahatma Ghandhi. You will then be transferred to your hotel for a final night to relax ahead of your flight home tomorrow.
