La Cuvette beach or lovely Pereybere cove and south-easterly Blue Bay beach are ideal for bathing, windsurfing and sailing. Le Morne and Tamarin are popular for surfing and swimming. Flic en Flac, its white-sand beaches fringed with filaos and casuarinas, is perfect for sunbathing.

    Nosy Be

    Nosy Be is surrounded by stunning white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. Known as ‘The perfumed Isle,’ you will experience the sensational smells of vanilla, saffron, cinnamon and ylang-ylang, which are grown and exported here. Bright blue lakes formed from volcanic crates adorn the landscape, while exotic birds line the palm trees and lush green forests. The waters house brightly coloured marine life making this a snorkeler’s dream location.

    The sleepy town of Diego Suarez is home to old colonial buildings and relaxed shops and restaurants. Its nearby beaches are a paradise of golden sands, sparkling waters and lush coconut palms.     Madagascar’s second city has wide boulevards lined with palm trees and colourful street markets. Take a walk down Boulevard Joffre in the heart of the colonial quarter, or shop in the city’s main market, the Bazary Be, where you can buy spices, including vanilla in all its forms, before heading to the zoological park to meet the lemurs, tortoises and chameleons.

    Remote Réunion Island is located in the Indian Ocean between Madagascar and Mauritius. Known for its incredible landscapes, from the rain forested interior with its tumbling waterfalls, to the white-sand beaches and colourful coral reefs, it’s a beautiful island to explore. Hike to the Piton des Neiges, dine on the fusion of Creole, Indian and Chinese cuisine, or swim in the turquoise lagoons.
