After your stay, you’ll embark Cruise & Maritime’s stylish Astor. Take your time to get to know your beautiful home for the next 23 nights. The next couple of days at sea will give you plenty of time to make the most of the premium facilities on board the Astor. Settle into life on the open sea by taking a walk round the sun deck and soaking in the expansive views. Lie back for some yoga, have an early game of deck chess, or just indulge in the luxury of being able to do absolutely nothing. At some stage, you’ll be ready for some refreshment: maybe a relaxed lunch in the Oversee Club or dinner in the magnificent Waldorf Restaurant.
Your first port of call is Walvis Bay, a laid-back harbour on Namibia’s dramatic Atlantic coast. Spin round Pelican Point, a long sand spit and natural haven for marine life. Enjoy unique views of dolphins, whales and seals, and the astonishing pink flamingos on the surrounding wetlands. Or you may choose to head inland to explore the outer reaches of the Namib Desert.
The next few days at sea will give you plenty of time to make the most of the premium facilities on board the Astor. Join the fitness team for an early morning workout on the sun deck. Learn about the history of the places you’ll be visiting from an expert speaker, or pick up a new skill from onboard arts and crafts specialists.
Praia Santiago (Cape Verde)
Get ready for an exciting change of pace from your peaceful days at sea. Head for the scenic old town of bustling Praia. Admire its magnificent houses from the colonial era, imposing palaces and historic churches. Sample local produce at the colourful food market, or head out to Tarrafal, a picturesque bay where you may fancy a dip in the warm sea.
Mindelo (Cape Verde)
The cultural centre of the Cape Verdean archipelago, Mindelo is the birthplace of many internationally famous music styles, like morna and coladeira. Wander the pretty streets of São Vicente’s capital and you’ll hear the music – it’s everywhere! Find a table at Café Musique or Pica Pau, grab a plate of prawns, and swing to the bluesy rhythms of salsa and bossa nova from home-grown artists.
Nothing whets the appetite like sea air. A leisurely dinner with mouth-watering food and good company is one of the highlights of the day. After dinner, the highly acclaimed entertainment team invite you to join them in the Astor Lounge where they’ll display their talents in a colourful big show. Late night cabarets will ensure your evenings keep going with a swing.
While it still evokes memories of Bogart and Bergman, Casablanca today is a large, modern city – one of the most cosmopolitan in Morocco. Explore its French colonial legacy, striking architecture and old medina, and don’t miss the chance to visit the towering Hassan II Mosque. Then savour the scents and haggle for a bargain in one of Casablanca’s colourful and atmospheric old souks.
After another day at sea relaxing in the indoor swimming pool and sauna, why not dress up for a special dinner in the intimate Admiral's Salon for some Asian fusion cuisine, or the Commodore's Salon for a taste of the Mediterranean? You may like to enjoy some tunes from our resident pianist or a game of cards with new-found friends. When you call it a night, your comfortable stateroom is a short stroll away.
The pint-sized city of Lisbon is set across seven hills and is easy to explore thanks to a network of traditional trams. Get lost in the narrow cobbled alleyways of the Alfama district with its colourful buildings and beautiful views. Or explore further afield – there are fantastic beaches never more than a short drive away – then take a ride out to the imposing and majestic Jeronimos monastery.
After docking in Leixoses, it’s a short ride into Porto, Portugal’s second-largest city. This is a charming place where colourful tile-fronted buildings sparkle in the Portuguese sunshine. Explore the city’s narrow streets, return the smiles of the charming locals out on their balconies, and don’t forget to sample Porto’s world-famous fortified wine. Visit the Cathedral Sé for stunning views of the city and magnificent river Douro.
As you head for London, reflect on the beauty and variety of the historic and natural experiences you’ve enjoyed on your journey so far. Exchange stories with fellow travellers in the cosy Hanse Bar or over a game of bridge in the Card Room. Breathe in the ocean air on the sun terrace, and recall the sights and sounds of your journey from Cape to UK capital.
