Departing 24 Oct 18
Experience ancient wonders, futuristic skyscrapers, historic cities and buzzing metropolises during this diverse and exciting China discovery.
Your holiday begins as you travel to China’s magnificent capital, Beijing. China’s greatest landmark weaves majestically between the East and West of China, through dry and dusty deserts and lush mountains, carrying with it a tragic, yet triumphant history that spans more than 2000 years. Experience The Great Wall of China in all of its glory during your tour, in which you can climb watchtowers to experience the incredible views before viewing the wall from an entirely different view point during a cable car ride to the top. While here you’ll also visit the Temple of Heaven, a tranquil oasis of peace and harmony; and the Forbidden City, China’s former imperial palace and the largest collection of ancient buildings in the country.
Leaving Beijing you’ll be transported to train to Xian where you’ll discover the incredible Terracotta Army, one of the most famous archaeological finds in the world. Holding silent guard over the tomb of Qin Shi Huangdi, the estimated 8,000 warriors are truly astounding in their detail and intricacy and offer a fascinating glimpse into ancient China. While in Xi’an you’ll also explore the Muslim Quarter and Great Mosque and see the ways in which Central Asia has influenced the development of Mainland China.
From here you’ll fly to Shanghai to begin the next part of your holiday, a voyage to Hong Kong on board the newly enhanced ms Westerdam. Highlights of your cruise include an overnight stay on board the ship in Shanghai, time to discover the city highlights including the atmospheric Bund or perhaps catch an acrobatics show; and the futuristic port town of Busan, brimming with designer cafés and bustling markets and overlooked by rugged mountain ranges. Spend a night in Taipei, the city a fusion of Chinese, Japanese and Asian crowned by a fantastic food scene that you just have to experience and enjoy a quick visit to Manila, the vibrant capital of the Philippines on your way to Hong Kong where you’ll disembark.
