Middle East Travel Update
March to May
Springtime is one of the best seasons to explore Greece. Temperatures range from 15–25°C, with occasional bursts of warm, pleasant weather. March can be slightly cooler, but by April, the sun is strong enough to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities – from hiking and swimming to exploring the many archaeological sites scattered across the region. It’s also a quieter season, so you can expect fewer crowds at popular attractions.
June to August
Greece in summer is a sun-kissed utopia, beckoning with long sunny days, crystalline waters and vibrant nightlife. It’s the perfect time for island hopping and unwinding on beautiful beaches. July and August are the peak months, bringing higher temperatures and larger crowds, while the shoulder months of June and September promise slightly cooler weather.
September to November
Promising spectacular landscapes in a patchwork of saffron, ochre, olive and gold, autumn is one of the best times to experience Greece’s beauty. Temperatures sit comfortably between 15°C and 25°C, making it ideal for exploring iconic sights and enticing attractions without the crowds of peak season. It’s also harvest time, offering an excellent opportunity to sample seasonal flavours and authentic local cuisine.
October to November
Visiting Greece in winter offers a truly unique experience. The streets may be quieter, but the islands don’t lose their welcoming atmosphere. The weather is generally mild, with sunny days, cooler nights and the occasional rain shower. Athens comes alive with festive celebrations and cosy coffee shop scenes, while Crete and Rhodes offer slightly warmer temperatures, making them great places to explore and enjoy the outdoors.

Athens is where ancient history and modern city life meet. At its heart rises the iconic Acropolis, where the Parthenon overlooks the sprawling city below. Wander its ancient slopes before exploring the fascinating Acropolis Museum, which brings Greece’s classical past to life. In the historic Plaka district, narrow streets are lined with cafés, boutiques and traditional tavernas, perfect for leisurely afternoons. As evening falls, rooftop restaurants offer unforgettable views of the illuminated ruins, reminding visitors that Athens – birthplace of democracy, philosophy and theatre – is a city where history shapes every step.

Greek cuisine is celebrated for its fresh, vibrant flavours and Mediterranean influences, centred on seasonal ingredients, olive oil and aromatic herbs. Classic staples include creamy tzatziki, feta cheese, olives and fresh seafood, alongside heartier dishes such as moussaka and souvlaki. Colourful salads, grilled meats and freshly baked breads also feature prominently on the table. Dining in Greece is a social occasion, often enjoyed slowly over several courses, where friends and family gather to share food, conversation and the warm, lively atmosphere of traditional tavernas.

The Greek Isles enchant with their idyllic beauty and rich cultural heritage, each island offering its own character and charm. Mykonos is famous for its vibrant harbour, whitewashed windmills and lively waterfront lined with restaurants and bars. Crete, the largest Greek island, offers a different experience with rugged mountains, historic towns and ancient Minoan ruins. Across the islands, travellers discover beaches, dramatic sunsets over translucent waters, and narrow cobbled streets leading to traditional tavernas, where warm Mediterranean hospitality and authentic Greek cuisine complete the experience.
